June 3, 2014, New York, NY – Nextremity Solutions® recently partnered with the New York College of Podiatric Medicine to host a live cadaver surgery featuring the Nextra® Hammertoe Correction System. This unique event was a live broadcast utilizing Google Glass, a wearable camera technology which allows viewers of the broadcast to see exactly what the wearer sees.

Michael J. Trepal, D.P.M., FACFAS, and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine guided Giannin Perez DPM, MS through the Nextra® surgical procedure. “It was exciting to broadcast live, for educational purposes, a surgical procedure where a state-of-the-art digital implant was inserted and recorded using state of the art Google Glass technology. This opens the door for many educational and patient care opportunities,” said Dr. Trepal.

When asked about the overall experience, Dr. Perez commented, “Nextremity Solutions® and Google Glass were elegant in their simplicity and ease of application. This was my first experience using the Nextra® device and I found it to be very quick and precise.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for Nextremity to be involved in the education of podiatric surgeons. We believe that through creating innovative educational opportunities like this we will continue to build our business together one relationship at a time,” said Rod K. Mayer, President and CEO of Nextremity Solutions®.

Nextremity Solutions and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine are planning another event in the near future utilizing the Nextra® Hammertoe Correction System and Google Glass. This live public event will be announced at a later date.
